Abstract:

Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is an 85 acre park that extends 1.3 miles along the East River and is home to over 12,000 species of plants and wildlife (Plants & Wildlife: Brooklyn Bridge Park, 2021). Located at the heart of a metropolis, BBP is a crucial biodiversity hotspot that supports both the organisms living within it as well as the people living around it. Our study aims to assess how human interference has affected the biodiversity of the region with an emphasis on soil and its microbiome. We hypothesize that human interference has increased soil biodiversity.
