Abstract:

In this Urban Barcode Project, we are investigating the genetic variation among different types of tomato. We have chosen several popular types of tomatoes, and will examine the chloroplast RbCl DNA gene sequence from these tomato fruits. Any similarities in the DNA sequences will be evident in the sequencing of these genes. We hypothesize that although most tomatoes look and taste very similar, there is genetic variation amongst these plants’ RbCl genes.
