Abstract:

Duckweeds, also known as water lentils, are from the family of Lemonade. They grow on freshwater bodies like lakes, ponds, that have fairly still water surfaces (no significant waves). They don’t like to grow in cold weather because they can’t survive when the temperature is below freezing point and they also cannot grow in drought conditions. Duckweed normally grow at a temperature between 6 and 33 degrees Celsius. Duckweed plays an important role in the ecosystem. They are a very good source of food for fish and waterfowl (Cross, J. W.,2014). Duckweed also help maintain habitat for certain underwater species like frogs and fish by providing shade. Despite being helpful to some species, duckweed can also be harmful to others in the ecosystem. The reason because duckweed grows rapidly which allows them to cover the water surface and block the sunlight entering into the bottom of the lake or pond which can kill fish in some cases. However, this small aquatic plant has received resea
