Abstract:

This article aims to provide the general public with the relatively best identification apps for plants and insects that we’ve carefully selected. Thanks to the DNA barcoding technique, the accuracy of identification apps can be easily determined. We prepared 56 samples, ranging from plants to animals, in our experiment. As for the extraction of DNA in our samples, we adopted the Rapid Extraction Method, Silica Extraction Method, Tissue Qiagen Kit, and Plant Qiagen Kit, ensuring the maximum number of species being identified through the DNA barcoding. In total, 32 out of 56 samples got their DNA sequences identified. According to the scoring system that we’ve developed, “picturethis” and “pictureinsects” had the best performance in identifying plants and insects, and we strongly suggest using these apps in your daily life.
