In Northern New Jersey, there are around 1,400 species of moss, and the effect moss has on an ecosystem is huge. Our project aims to relate the soil pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels of the soil to the biodiversity of moss. We will collect moss and soil samples from different areas, and use PCR and DNA barcoding to identify the species. With our results, we hope to gain insight into the biodiversity of moss and its impact on ecosystems.
