Abstract:

We are interested in discovering crab diversity on Randall’s Island. We will go to a salt marsh and the open water of the Harlem River to collect crab samples of as many species as possible. We would like to see if there are differences in the species between the two habitats. We will then extract, amplify, and confirm the presence of the DNA before sending the DNA out to be sequenced. We additionally seek to learn about invasive species and their effects on their environment.
