Abstract:

Wild bee populations have declined globally. In North America, wild bees, such as the bumble bee population, have declined, and 90% of their population has disappeared. New York State has also seen a 90% decline in the bumble bee population. Our research objective is to survey the diversity of wild bees on Governors Island, NY, through DNA barcoding. Our small survey based on DNA barcodes may contribute to the database of the diversity of wild bees found in Governors Island and New York City. Some scientists might use our data to see the species richness and the stability of the island's ecosystem.
