Abstract:

Our goal for this project is to investigate how different habitats in a rooftop garden cultivate ant species, specifically within rooftop gardens, by examining species composition and diversity across two distinct bed types in the Marymount rooftop garden. This study aims to analyze how different soil compositions and vegetation types within an urban ecosystem influence the diversity and distribution of any community. Through sampling ants from two distinct bed types and analyzing collected data, the study hopes to shed light on how specific environmental factors shape the composition and ecological interactions of ant species within this isolated, manmade green space.
