By comparing and contrasting the plant species and soil abiotic factors in Van Courtland Park and Black Rock Forest, we aim to explore the differences in the two park’s wetlands. We hypothesize that of the plant species collected from Van Courtland, there will be more invasive species collected and fewer hydrophytes compared to those collected from Black Rock Forest, due to the negative impact on the New York City wetland caused by urbanization around it. Despite this, we hypothesize that both wetlands will have signs of waterlogging present with black/gray soil colors and water-stained leaves, as neither area has lost their characterization as wetlands, despite the pressure the environment may be under.
