The Battle of the Ants: Westchester v. NYC

Abstract:

A study of the diversity of ant species in lower Westchester compared with NYC species. We will collect ants from different locations in lower Westchester county. The ants will be sorted according to morphology and a few ants from each category will have their DNA extracted. Following DNA extraction and PCR, the DNA will be sequenced. These sequences will be compared to known DNA ant sequences and the data will be examined to determine the diversity of ants in lower Westchester compared to the diversity of ants in NYC.
