Abstract:

Chemicals and fertilizers can be very useful in maintaining lawns and gardens. However, this can cause harm to the environment and plants around it. To test this, we will look at biodiversity off grass in well-landscaped lawns, minimally landscaped lawns, and in wildlife. We believe that lawns that are highly landscaped will have the least biodiversity of grass. Our goal for this proposal is to encourage people to stop using excessive amounts of fertilizer on their lawns because of its negative effects on native grasses. For our methodology, we will collect one representative grass sample from minimally landscaped backyards, a landscaped backyard, and a small patch of unmoved wildlife near the Tenafly Creek. Then we will place the samples in the clean paper envelope, then in a plastic container before the DNA extraction in the lab. After getting the data, we will use DNA Subway to identify the species, place them into a comparable biodiversity table, and summarize all findings in a wri
