Abstract:

Wastewater contamination in fresh and coastal waters is the predominant source of fecal microorganisms, including strains of pathogens. Due to the fact that we live in an urban area, we hypothesize that strains of E. coli will be present in Jamaica Bay. Our primary objective is to determine and document the variability within the genus Escherichia in Jamaica Bay, specifically isolating the pathogenic strains.
