Abstract:

Hand washing is strongly encouraged after using the bathroom in order to prevent transmission of bacterias. Because the transmission of bacteria is more likely to occur on wet than dry skins, a proper hand drying methods are a vital part of hand hygiene. Different hand drying methods - paper towels, hand dryers, or simply just shaking off the excess water from your hand - can have different outcome in preventing infections. We will examine how different hand drying methods affect the hands’ microbiome and contribute to bacterial growth. The results of our study can influence current hand hygiene protocols. Promoting better hygiene and awareness, our experiment will contribute to the health of many citizens.
