Vector-borne diseases transmitted by ticks are on the rise and their effective control is a challenging public health issue (Sanchez-Vicente et al., 2019). The only effective protection that remains is the use of tick repellents. The purpose of our project is to investigate the migrant and endemic tick species on two types of locations, wooded and developed land, in the Three Village community of Long Island. We plan to collect samples from each location and document the spread of migrant and endemic tick species on wooded and developed land in the Three Village Area, as well as to model the range of motion of ticks highlighting the risks encountered by students playing outside sports such as soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and cross-country.
