Abstract:

Ants are known to be an indicator species which makes them a good organism to study. The goal of this project is to determine if bus pollutants effect the biodiversity of ants. Bus pollutants can be harmful to humans by causing asthma like symptoms and are also a negative factor to biodiversity in species. In this research project there will be two different sites where ant samples will be collected. One collection site will be located in a suburban area next to a school where buses discharge students on a daily occurrence. The second collection site is a wooded area with no vehicular pollution. Our hypothesis is if an area is disturbed to bus pollutants that the biodiversity of ants will decrease..
