Abstract:

This study focuses mainly on the species of mosquitoes that are found at (40.953237, -72.904389) and (40.954522, -72.850328). These locations are in the Shoreham-Wading River community. More specifically the Wading River duck pond and a house. It will be determined if these species are among those that commonly transfer EEE and WNV. Through this experiment, the prevalence of certain species of mosquitoes on Long Island and whether they carry diseases will be explored. It will also be determined if there are species of mosquitoes that are not commonly found in Suffolk County or Long Island, and if they are concentrated in one of the two areas that were studied. Additionally, it will be noted if certain species are only found in one of the two areas, and if they are the only species found in that area. This could show if there is a breeding area for a species of mosquitoes in that area.
