Abstract:

With the great ecological environment around Stony Brook, it harbors a large variety of species. Ants are common invertebrates, and they can be often seen everywhere. This study attempts to observe the biodiversity of ants around the stony brook community. By collecting samples from six different sites, identifying their specific sub-categories, observing the ants’ behavior under distinct conditions, and analyzing the genetic makeup of ants, our team aims to understand the biodiversity of ants species around the Stony Brook. This is important because ants possess great benefits not only to the ecosystem but also closely related to human health.
