We look to investigate the biodiversity of the soil fungal communities within the New York City area by collecting soil samples and isolating environmental DNA (eDNA) from a number of urban ecologies, including Central and Van Cortlandt Parks. Within the soil mycobiome among the ubiquitous saprophytic species, mycorrhizal fungal biodiversity is a good indicator of the health of plant life and larger ecosystems that depend on it.
