Abstract:

Biodiversity is a measure of the variety of species or life in a given area (Joanna Benn). There is a large amount of biodiversity within the ant family. The biome in which ants come from also affects the type of ants that exist. Our investigation will examine what types of ants can be found in a biome with little to no pesticides and one with pesticides. A variety of traps will be placed at a spot in Nob Hill Condominiums, Connetquot High School, and Connetquot State Park to see if the amount of pesticides sprayed affects biodiversity. The traps will be collected after an hour and a half in order to get a better understanding of the biodiversity of these areas. We will go through the proper documentation of these ants in order to have the best chance of identifying them before sending them to the lab in order to be barcoded.
