Abstract:

In our research project, we are looking to see how climate change affects the species of mosquitoes found in Suffolk County and the effect that these species have on humans. Our objective is to find out the correlation between how climate affects the spread of mosquitoes. We want to obtain mosquito sample data from Long Island, and analyze the correlation between climate and types of mosquitoes found. We would like to collect sample data from Cold Spring Harbor, these species will all be from Suffolk County, we will specifically be looking at the CO1 gene in these mosquitoes, in order to determine the species of mosquitoes collected. We predict that at least some of the mosquitoes collected will be the common mosquitoes found in Suffolk county; Culex pipiens and Aedes albopictus. However, we also believe that climate change over the past few years may have led to more diverse mosquito species being observed in Suffolk county. We want to see how diverse our sample collection is and even
