The Brown Tide is harmful algae bloom that affects the marine life of the Great South Bay, including shellfish (oysters) and seagrasses. The brown tide is an issue that has been occurring more frequently and is worsening every year. Our goal is to monitor and predict the growth of brown tide to find out possible ways towards prevention. Being able to accurately identify certain specimens in our samples could elevate the ways we understand the pattern of algae growth in the Great South Bay.
