The primary focus of this experiment is to identify the prevalence of antibiotic resistance and other biochemical characteristics of transient bacteria we acquire on our hands throughout the course of a day. We will identify the transient bacteria by DNA barcoding and by using the Gen III Biolog system. The Gen III Biolog system not only identifies the species of bacteria it also provides a biochemical profile. We will also test for antibiotic resistance by using the Kirby-Bauer method also known as the disc agar diffusion method.
