Effects of Traffic on Biodiversity

Abstract:

Vehicular traffic, human infrastructure, and human has adverse effects on ecosystems. We aim to determine the species richness of an area in Wantagh, NY that is affected by all of these factors. We will create a transect through portions of a wooded area that is next to Wantagh Parkway and contains a walking trail. Quadrats will be placed along the transect to try and represent each type of area. Insects will be collected from inside each quadrat and identified. The most unique species in each quadrat will be barcoded for further study.
