Abstract:

This past summer Long Island experienced an above average mosquito population. This is due to the high precipitation and warm weather they had. This climate is perfect for mosquitos to thrive. Stallone, M. (2024, June 7). As years go on, more and more mosquitos are expected because global warming is making our summers hotter. Long island consists of 50 different species of mosquitoes. Coquillettidia perturbans are freshwater mosquitos that are usually found in North America. The offspring of this species typically attach themselves to aquatic plants. At first, this species came from South America. Over time they made their way up to North America We will investigate polymorphisms in the cytochrome c oxidase I region in different individuals of Coquillettidia perturbans. First we have to extract the DNA, then we will sequence it and compare it to a database
