To keep track of the mosquito population in Long Island, it is necessary to know the types and what types can live on Long Island. Long Island has been keeping track of the mosquito population since the 1970’s (Suffolk County Government, n.d) This helps us control the population and know it is increasing or decreasing Long Island has two main types of mosquitoes, Culex and Asian Tiger mosquitoes (Ultimate Pest Control, n.d). Both Asian Tiger mosquitoes and culex are most commonly found in Northern Asia to Asia, but they made their way here in about the mid-1980 from United States shipments of trade and materials . They came from a climate about the same as ours but were transferred through human trade (UC Riverside Center for Invasive Species Research, n.d). To identify these mosquitoes we will use microscopes and compare their features to other photos and reports of the same species of these mosquitoes.
