Abstract:

The Peconic River is an important and vital source of freshwater that is also the habitat of many aquatic species. A few major problems of the Peconic river include nitrogen pollution as well as invasive species, which can harm the water quality and also affect the ecosystem. We are actually the source of a few problems, such as invasive species, we accidentally brought them into the ecosystem, another example is excess pollution such as littering plastic in the river. Maintaining biodiversity is crucial for all life on earth, including us. We need a wide range of organisms and a healthy ecosystem, because a stable ecosystem contains many essential resources that we need to survive. For example, if a lake contains fish that we eat, and the lake gets contaminated and makes the fish contaminated and unhealthy, as humans, if we eat that, we will get sick as well. To collect samples we went on a trip to Forge Pond, then we caught organisms such as insects and crawfish with dip nets and a s
