Our project goal is to evaluate the biodiversity of Forge Pond in the Peconic River. This information will help us assess the overall health of the pond and accompanying river. Nutrient pollution, habitat loss, and toxic contamination. The importance of measuring and maintaining biodiversity is to preserve wildlife and protect it against disasters. Without biodiversity, our world wouldn’t be able to self sustain and would fall to ruin. First we went to the Peconic River and we caught the organisms with a seine net and a dip net. Then when we got to the school we put the organisms in ethanol. We should expect to find species such as shellfish, muscles, hard clams, a variety of fish, crabs, squid, and scup. Invasive species include the mosquito fern and the creeping water primrose. We will fish up organisms with mostly nets, putting them in jars and later barcoding them, this ensures a safe and easy process of catch and transfer. The Forge Pond and Peconic River are connected to the Pe
