Abstract:

The objective of our project is to capture ants from locations varying in water salinity, and DNA barcode them to examine differences in species. We will set traps in both locations and bring the ants back to the lab. We will isolate the DNA using the Silica DNA isolation method. We will then examine the DNA barcodes and determine the differences in species. The goal of the experiment is to identify key differences between the ants in the saltwater area and the ants in the freshwater area.
