Abstract:

The purpose of our project is to measure the effects of industrial pollution on aquatic freshwater bacteria in ponds in Glen Cove. The question we are looking to answer is: “How does bacterial diversity change with increasing pollution levels in a pond?” Water samples were collected from both a contaminated and preserved freshwater pond to determine how bacterial diversity is affected by pollution. We used the process of metabarcoding to identify the different bacterial species present in each pond.
