The goals of our experiment are to determine the types of bacteria that are isolated within our school communities, identify them and to test whether they are resistant or susceptible to commonly used antibiotics (bacteria susceptibility or resistance). By determining the types and numbers of putative antibiotic-resistant bacteria in our schools, we can identify any sanitary hazards that school areas can contain. Additionally, we are looking for biodiversity amongst the collected bacteria for each school, since we are collecting bacteria from three different locations, it will allow us to have a more diverse range of potential antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This will also allow us to understand relationships or correlations between New York environments and the bacteria living in them.
