Abstract:

The purpose of this project is to measure the species diversity within this area of the Peconic River by comparing the information on current species to ones from prior years. Once our information is collected we can use this to determine whether any undocumented species have been present in the area. Not only can we find undocumented species, but we can also determine whether certain species that once were present have now disappeared, any we may be able to find correlation between these undocumented species and disappearing ones. We will analyze 20 samples of different invertebrates and invertebrate larvae such as dragonflies and damselflies to assess biodiversity and determine if any major changes are occurring in the Peconic River
