Abstract:

The purpose of this experiment is to test the toxicity of certain Superfund sites on Long Island and study the effects of pollution on their environments. Pollution plays a detrimental role in wildlife and the environment, contributing to climate change and contaminants. This experiment will be observing the effect of pollution, in the form of contaminants and human interaction on the biodiversity of invertebrates by visiting 3 superfund sites on Long Island and doing a quadrant study. Then quadrant study will be done in the same town at a site that has no contaminants. Then, the DNA of all the organisms collected will be barcoded and compared to study the effects of pollution on each organism. This study is useful in that the effects of certain types of pollution and human interaction will be more closely looked at to discover how it is affecting ecosystems. This information will be a useful tool to determine how badly pollution is hurting the environment and how certain organisms wil
