Biodiversity of the Massapequa Creek is not only vast, but also slowly being destroyed due to pollution and microplastics in the water. In this experiment, aquatic specimens were collected from the grass and inside the creek sediments to be DNA barcoded later on. The specimens were then placed into 100% alcohol to preserve the body. This experiment could be beneficial in identifying the species found in the Massapequa preserve as well as monitoring changes in the environment.
