Abstract:

The Massapequa Preserve, a temperate deciduous forest, will be visited for this project. At the Massapequa Preserve, multiple organisms will be collected in the river. The organisms that are aimed to be collected are aquatic macroinvertebrates, small in size and very common throughout this preserve. The motivation behind this experiment is to discover what organisms reside and the biodiversity in the Massapequa Preserve. Macroinvertebrates will be collected inside of tubes full of 95% Ethanol for identification later. No more than two of each species will be collected in order to examine biodiversity. When the time comes to examine the macroinvertebrates, the macroinvertebrates’ species will first attempt to be identified by references. To confirm whether these references are correct, the macroinvertebrates will be crushed up to extract the DNA of each individual creature. DNA barcoding will be used in order to confirm the species of the individual organism. Something that is expecte
