The Analysis of Caprellidae and Caprella through DNA Barcoding project investigates whether morphological variation among skeleton shrimp corresponds to genetic divergence within Caprellidae. Their body shape and limb structure identify these small marine crustaceans, but such traits can vary with age, sex, or environment, making accurate identification difficult. However, research suggests that skeletal shrimp may contain diversity detectable through DNA barcoding. This study tests whether visible differences among these shrimp exist, with variations in their genetics. Specimens will be collected from shallow coastal habitats, photographed, and preserved for morphological and molecular analysis. The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) region will be the primary barcode. DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, and data analysis will follow established protocols using the DNA Subway 2.0 Blue Line workflow to align sequences, generate consensus reads, and phylogenetics.
